#1: Start a business

It was the Fall of 2008 amidst a growing recession, Al and I sat in front of the television staring at the news just before leaving for work. We were living in Aspen, Colorado working for a real estate conglomerate partially (a good partial) financed by Lehman Brothers. We were in trouble. There were layoffs, and more layoffs and we began talking. Were we next? What would we do on one income or no income? Aspen is not a cheap town to live in and we would definitely need to relocate. But to where? We began formulating a plan to move to the west cost of Florida which we had become familiar with through his parents’ second home. On the subject of what to do, no...

#154: Purchase my own stationery

Ok, it’s not the most exciting item on my bucket list but purchasing stationery is like a sign of adulthood (at least I think so). We finally took the plunge and purchased personalized stationery because we are at that point in our adult life that it is necessary for business and personal reasons. Well maybe just business. #173: Eat at the world’s greatest restaurants (Garces Trading Company

To me, some of the best culinary experiences transpose me to a different time and place. I like to think that I’m sitting in a café amongst the vineyards of France or Italy outside in the sunshine and warmth. That’s hard to recreate on a hot and humid street in downtown Philadelphia, but somehow Jose Garces accomplished it. Jose Garces is most famous for his win on The Next Iron Chef, but he has been operating Garces Trading Company on Locust Street in Philadelphia since 2009. The café not only contains a list of unique and fresh ingredients on their menu, but also a boutique wine and cheese shop. You can sit inside among the shoppers of the store or...

Number 59 on my bucket (to-do) list is “get paid to travel,” although I haven’t quite accomplished that yet I’ve decided to work on it.  I went through a list of options on how to accomplish this feat and reasons they won’t work: Work as a stewardess I’m generally not that nice, I don’t like to smile at strangers and I hate being a server Get my reality TV show Most of these come with clauses like:  must eat weird things, must risk lives for stupid scenes, or must abandon shirts, shoes and cell phones. Not up for any of that Go back to the corporate world and work in a position that requires significant travel The corporate...

The Unsettled Life – Blog Title

Posted by on Apr 25, 2011 in General | 2 comments

I’ve been searching for quiet some time for the perfect title for this blog.  There are so many bucket list, life list, top 30 things before I’m 30, etc…that I wanted to set it apart a bit from the rest.  Plus it’s not really a bucket list blog per se, it’s an ever evolving and changing list of what I expect out of myself and my life.  It’s things I don’t want to accomplish before I ‘kick the bucket’ but more things I want to accomplish in the next five or ten years. Then it hit me.  I was thinking back to our wedding (as I was updating the photos on the blog header) and about my sisters’ maid of honor...
