13.1 and done….my first half marathon!

To say I was nervous for my first half marathon is an understatement.  As many of you know I had been struggling with the training, aching knees and a pulled hip muscle right before the race.  At my husband’s begging, I decided to give myself a week break before the race which I knew was what I needed but made me nervous that I wouldn’t be ready.  On Saturday morning, I accepted my fate and felt good about everything…and then we drove up to Clearwater.  And upon arriving, we crossed not only 1..but 2…3…huge bridges we would have to cross during our run the next morning (see pictures in the slideshow).  Now for you mountaineers,...

The Day Before the Half Marathon

Referring back to my last post, time has been flying by.  It seems like just yesterday it was January and I had three months to prepare for tomorrow.  But it’s here and all the preparation is done, and I’m ready (I think) to complete my first half marathon tomorrow in Clearwater Beach. The last month of training was going great – I ran a couple 10+ mile runs and felt good, not great but who feels great after 10 miles?  My endurance is there, I’m not even out of breath at the end of a run.  But my legs.  The last couple weeks have just been ridden with injuries and aggravations in my legs.  A week and a half ago, I was doing walking...

Hitting a Road Block

With only two weeks and three days to go before my first half marathon, I’m hitting a severe road block.  I’m not out of breath, sure my legs are tired but not exhausted…the problem is I’m just bored! I just don’t want to run anymore.  I’m over the training, over getting up in the morning to avoid the ungodly heat and humidity (its HOT in Florida right now), I just don’t want to run.  But I know this process isn’t easy, as my father-in-law would say ‘If it were easy, everyone would do it.’ And isn’t that why we as humans, adventurers and travelers do what we do…because everyone can’t do it....

Just Do It

One of the only useful pieces of advice Charlie Sheen has indulged all of us with was the quote, “Nike’s slogan doesn’t say just try it, Just Do It.”  I think that’s a good slogan for life, I just wish it would have come from a more respectable source. This past week I continued with my half marathon training.  With officially less than one month to go, I continued increasing both my weekly mileage and the mileage on my long distance run.  The long run is up to 8.5 miles now, and I think I may try to jump to 10 miles next weekend.  I felt great on the run, but hit a wall at about 7 miles.  So far I haven’t been running with a...

Move Along (#1)

Posted by on Feb 4, 2011 in In Process | 0 comments

So I have broken down many of my physical bucket list goals down into mini goals to start. One of my major Bucket List items is to run a Marathon, however I don’t think my best bet is to jump right into it from my comfortable 5k. So I’m shooting for a half to begin. A little background about me and my body (G rated of course). I have always been an athlete, for as long as I can remember I have been involved in some sort of sport…my father actually had me ‘test’ virtually all possible female sports from the ages of 5 – 7. I ended up with skiing, horseback riding and field hockey. Although I’ve had my injuries with all three,...
