#10: Save an animal’s life

“You love the dog more than me.” That is the most common complaint I hear out of my husband’s mouth, and to be honest. Sometimes I do. What’s not to love about this face? While we were living in Aspen I started craving the attention you can only receive from a four-legged friend. But living in a 900 square foot basement apartment was not really conducive to raising a puppy. After moving to Naples, I immediately got to work on finding our new best friend. I have always believed in animal rescue, ever since I can remember my family (and later I) had rescued Greyhounds, Golden Retrievers, rabbits, cats and even horses. I can’t deny it, rescuing...

Standing at the top of the world: Maroon Bells

Every time I look at this photo, I’m in awe.  It wraps up so many memories and so many bucket list items and it just unbelievably gorgeous.  This probably isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last time that I talk about this hike, it is just that special to me. Buttermilk Mountain is one of the four mountains that combine to form the Aspen/Snowmass resort in Aspen, Colorado.  It’s most famous for the X Games, a snowboarders mountain in a resort that quiet frankly doesn’t have a lot of terrain for snowboarders.  As a skier, I don’t particularly like the mountain.  It’s pretty easy and short on Rocky Mountain standards....

13.1 and done….my first half marathon!

To say I was nervous for my first half marathon is an understatement.  As many of you know I had been struggling with the training, aching knees and a pulled hip muscle right before the race.  At my husband’s begging, I decided to give myself a week break before the race which I knew was what I needed but made me nervous that I wouldn’t be ready.  On Saturday morning, I accepted my fate and felt good about everything…and then we drove up to Clearwater.  And upon arriving, we crossed not only 1..but 2…3…huge bridges we would have to cross during our run the next morning (see pictures in the slideshow).  Now for you mountaineers,...

Making Time For Life, When Life is Passing You By

We’re getting near the end of ‘busy’ season down here in Naples, Florida.  For us winter means an influx of northerners, added traffic but also more money and their business.  This season has been a sea of days, some weeks I’m not really sure what month it is and it is a given I have no idea what particular day it is.  The last few months have been the definition of ‘flying by’ making it hard to keep up with my own life. I began this journey of setting a life list and goals to complete for the same reason many did before me, not to forget the things in life I want to do – not have to do.  The last few months have been extremely difficult to generate...

A Wine List Fit for a King (or Queen)

Posted by on Apr 1, 2011 in Bucket List Blog | 0 comments

Below is actually a post from my ‘professional’ blog – Decanted Wine & Beer blog for our retail store, but it ties into my life list goals nicely.  I’ve always wanted to drink a bottle of wine from my birth year…too bad 1983 was a bad (and expensive) vintage almost everywhere in the world.  But I did get to drink 2 1982’s (in this case I’ll gladly make myself a year older), 1978 and 1968. A few weeks ago we made the lengthy voyage up to Tampa (ok it was only a two hour drive) to dine at Bern’s Steak House.  We’ve heard over and over and over about how wonderful this place is and how the wine list is just beyond comparison.  So...
